There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of comforts aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
